1. What we publish
We publish upcoming Canadian craft-beer events — festivals, tap takeovers, beer releases, brewery anniversaries, live music at breweries, trivia nights, food-pairing dinners, brewery tours, and community events with a craft-beer focus. We publish festival series pages (annually recurring festivals) and city, province, and event-type hubs to help visitors browse.
We do not publish rumors, scraped events without editor review, events hosted by producers whose primary product isn't craft beer or beer-adjacent (cider, hard seltzer, non-alcoholic beer), or content designed to game search engines.
2. Verification standards
Every indexable event on the Site meets these minimums before publication:
- A valid future start date and timezone.
- A city and province in Canada.
- An event type from our taxonomy.
- A named venue or clearly-stated online-attendance mode.
- At least one reliable source URL — usually the official organizer's or venue's site.
- An original, factual description written or reviewed by an editor. We don't copy organizer descriptions wholesale.
- A "last verified" timestamp.
Ticketed festivals and major events also require a working ticket URL (or an explicit "price not published" note), an organizer name, and any age or admission restrictions the organizer has published.
3. Sources — priority order
- Official organizer websites.
- Official brewery, taproom, or venue websites.
- Official ticketing platforms (Showpass, Ticketleader, Eventbrite, etc.).
- Official social-media posts only when no organizer page exists.
- Curated regional or municipal calendars.
- User submissions.
Every published event records the source URL(s) it was verified against. If a source disagrees with itself (e.g. website says one date, social-media post says another), the organizer's own official page wins and we flag the conflict for a re-check.
4. When we don't know something
If a required detail isn't on any source we trust — exact ticket price, per-tier availability, participating breweries, band lineup, age policy, accessibility notes, weather policy — we mark it "not published" or "roster TBA" rather than inventing a value. If it's a major festival, we may publish it as a non-indexable draft (visible via direct link, hidden from search results) until the missing detail is confirmed.
5. Use of AI
We use large-language-model AI (currently Claude and similar tools) to help with editorial work — drafting descriptions from source material we've read, classifying event types and tags, suggesting brewery or venue matches, and flagging missing or conflicting fields. Every AI-assisted draft is reviewed by a human editor before it appears on the Site.
AI is never used to:
- Invent details we don't have a source for.
- Auto-publish scraped content without review.
- Generate images that could be mistaken for photos of a real event.
6. Photos and video
Photos and video used on the Site are one of:
- Organizer- or venue-approved media provided directly to us or clearly marked for press use.
- Licensed stock imagery, credited where the license requires.
- Our own generic artwork library, used as a branded placeholder when no approved organizer image is available. Cards using generic artwork carry a "Representative image — event not yet claimed" badge so viewers know the image isn't specific to the event.
We do not hotlink to organizer images, download social-media images without permission, or use AI-generated images that could look like photos of a real event.
7. Featured and sponsored placements
Some events, breweries, and calendar sections may be paid — "Featured", "Sponsored", or similar. We label anything paid on every surface where it appears. Paid placement:
- Must meet the same verification standards as unpaid content.
- Never overrides date/type/location relevance for user filters.
- Never influences editorial coverage of independent events, festivals, or breweries.
We don't sell follow links or misrepresent paid placements as editorial.
8. Corrections
If you spot a factual error — wrong date, wrong venue, cancelled event that's still listed, a brewery in the wrong city — please email corrections@craftbeerevents.ca with the URL and the correction. We aim to fix confirmed errors within 24 hours and to note substantial corrections on the page itself.
9. Completed events
After an event ends we mark it "This event has ended", remove it from upcoming search and map results, but keep the URL public so past-year information stays discoverable and links from other sites don't break. Recurring events with a festival-series page link to the series so visitors can find the next edition.
10. Independence
CraftBeerEvents.ca is editorially independent. Coverage decisions are made by the editorial team on merit — event significance, verifiability, regional relevance — not by advertisers, breweries, or the organizations we cover. Cross-links to our sister site BreweryFinder.ca use standard editorial referral conventions and are not paid placements.
