The Canadian Craft Beer Festival Calendar: A Year at a Glance
How the Canadian craft-beer year actually unfolds — from March cask sessions through summer's outdoor festivals to autumn cellar releases — and where in the country each season peaks.
January–February: quiet cellars and cider season
The two coldest months are the quietest for festival calendars — most events are single-brewery release days, cellar-list tap takeovers, or intimate cask nights. It's a good time to visit a taproom without a lineup and a great time for cellar-heavy stouts and barrel-aged programs.
March: Winter Beer Week kickoff
The calendar wakes up in March. Fredericton, Edmonton, Victoria Beer Week, and Hamilton's Because Brrr open the season with indoor festivals. Weekend release drops (fresh-hop lagers, pastry stouts) crowd every province.
April–May: outdoor festivals begin
Spring is when the outdoor calendar switches on. Okanagan Fest of Ale in Penticton and Calgary International Beerfest are the anchors. Vancouver Craft Beer Week, Kelowna Beer Fest, SASK Beerfest and Flatlanders in Winnipeg all cluster around late May.
June–August: the summer peak
The Canadian craft-beer year peaks between mid-June and late August. Toronto Festival of Beer, Because Beer in Hamilton, Cowichan Craft Beer & Food Festival on Vancouver Island, Halifax Seaport Cider & Beerfest, Festibière de Québec, Festival Parasol in Gatineau and Bières & Saveurs de Chambly all run in this window. If you're travelling for one big weekend, this is the sweet spot.
September–October: Oktoberfest and harvest
September rolls into the fresh-hop wave and Oktoberfest. Whistler Village Beer Festival, Harvest Haus at Vancouver's PNE, Kitchener-Waterloo Oktoberfest (the second-largest in the world), Alberta Beer Week, BC Beer Awards & Festival, Radium Oktoberfest, and the marquee Cask Days in Toronto. This is the second peak of the year.
November–December: intimate cellar events
The year closes quietly with cellar-and-cask events, small ticketed anniversary evenings, food-pairing dinners at breweries with kitchens, and Christmas-market beer gardens. Cape Breton Craft Beer Festival closes the calendar in December.
